Medieval Archaeology
Visiting Atrani means immersing yourself in the muffled atmosphere of the ancient seaside villages and especially if you reserve your visit for the winter season, it is possible to witness the operations, almost rituals, that the fishermen carry out on the beach when they return from fishing.
Facing the climb along the various stairs that start from the main square it is possible to discover new corners almost hidden from the view of those who superficially approach the visit of the town and thus, through the topography and the toponymy of the many alleys, rigorously painted in white, come across a votive aedicule or a church, testimony of the religiosity of the inhabitants of Atra but also of the history of this village.
Going up to the highest areas, you can enjoy not only the panorama of the town below but also come across rock settlements, where history mixes with legend.
One cannot refrain from participating in the patronal feast in July, when one experiences the typical dishes of the place, or in the blue fish festival, which in addition to enhancing the fishing product, offers traditional music to Atrano guests. So even the Christmas or Easter period, as well as other times during the year, allow you to get to know the essence of the village and its inhabitants in depth.
