Music combined with the most important moments of the civil and religious community of the Coast, songs which live in old people’s memories and musical instruments that are at the same time a tool to spread this music and a vehicle of handmade knowledge that live in last lutists’hands. Tarantella, but also pizzica and tammurriata preserve old steps able to keep away evil spirits or represent religious rituals. In fact these are music that is possible to find during religious rituals or folk celebrations. Tammurriata is very famous and it accompanies celebrations of Madonna dell’Avvocata who is venerated on Falerzio Mountain, overhanging Maiori; the procession with the statue of the Virgin through woods is followed by tamorre and accompanied by folk songs. As much interesting are songs which accompany Holy Week celebrations, particularly the visit to churches on Holy Thursday, when men dressed with white habit and hood, following ancient trails of battenti who belonged to confraternities devoted to penitence, sing holy songs by hearth changing tunes according to routes or to the confraternity they belong to.
