S. Egidio del Monte Albino – History

S. Egidio del Monte Albino was already frequented in Roman times in relation to its favorable position for the agricultural exploitation of the area, even if this attendance did not give rise to any type of urban form.

During the Middle Ages, the town gravitated to the area of influence of Nuceria dei Pagani and shared its fate when this town was destroyed by Ruggiero the Norman in 1137.

It then became Universitas with its own mayor and, having entered the Kingdom of Italy starting in 1861, obtained the addition of the specification “del Monte Albino” to its name to distinguish itself from the other cities with the same name.
