Conca dei Marini – Myths and legends

The most spread legends in Conca dei Marini are those linked to sea world which is populated by women who have magic powers, the janare, or by fishermen who are able to stop small windstorms that there can be particularly at the end of summer because of the change of air currents, the famous waterspouts. In both cases it is the magic world which becomes a daily element in local people life: everyone knows someone who has seen a janara not only flying on a broomstick but also on a boat or that knows how to break water which threateningly approaches to his or her own boat or house.

All this, maintaining a strong link with religious world with which all these legends do not clash but they complement each other in heritage which is not superstition but popular beliefs.
