Cappella di Santa Maria di Costantinopoli

MUNICIPALITY: Praiano
NAME: Chapel of St. Mary of Constantinople
LOCATION:Praiano

DESCRIPTION: This small chapel is mentioned from the 1700s as a liturgical meeting place for the Congregation of the Most Holy Rosary (Congrega del SS. Rosario). Architecturally, the structure has a single nave covered by a barrel vault and it doesn’t have an apsidal; a small sacristy completes the church plan. A niche over the entrance contains a stucco statue of the Madonna of Constantinople, while on the high altar a canvas depicts the Madonna of Constantinople with Sts. Roch and Sebastian against the background of a devastated Constantinople.
A bell gable tower is also present.

SEE, VISIT, FIND: The chapel is always closed.
FRUITION DATA: None
OPPORTUNITIES: The site could be included in a tour itinerary connecting all the architectural evidence in Praiano. It would be useful to produce informational material to be distributed to visitors to increase awareness of the heritage present and usable.
